Minutes of June 30, 2009 Susquehanna Branch of QDMA Board of Directors

Board members present - Jim Dovin, Kevin Urian, Bob Wagner, Dave Sienko, Jim Holbert
                                         Al Cuevas.

Associate Board members present -  Alton Arnold, Matt Sellers.
Pledge of Allegiance
Presidents Opening Remarks - Branch President Jim Dovin Jim read  a newspaper report of a mountain lion sighting
near Herrick Center as reported in the Forest City newspaper.
QDMA was also acknowledged as a supporter of Fran Graytock's fundraising efforts in running the Pittsburgh marathon.

Treasurers report - We have $6035.42.
Bills - Bob Wagner turned in bills for $23.
Motion -made by Jim Holbert to accept the treasurers report, seconded by Dave Sienko.
Approved by ALL.

Secretary’s report - No typed report of the May meeting had yet been prepared.
                                   Thank you card from the Silver lake Sportsmens Club for our $100 contribution to the
                                   Roger Everitt Memorial shoot which benefits 4H Shooting groups.

Old Business -
Review of our Branch Charter and a copy to be sent to National and RD Brian Nentrup Branch Consulting.

Finance Committee - Do we need to restaff the committee (Al C., Dave W., Jack S., & Dave T.)?
                                     No let it stand and see if it functions.
Expenses since last meeting - a check to Bob Woodward for $450 for a gun he won at the Banquet and would like to sell back to us.
                                                     a check to NWTF for $300 for a gun.
                                                     We will use these guns as part of our 2009 gun raffle.

NEW BUSINESS -
Wildlife Leadership Adventure Camp - we have one candidate Christopher Bannon.
Motion by Dave Sienko to pay $350 for tuition for Christopher Bannon to attend this camp.
Motion seconded by Jim Holbert. Yes by ALL.
Check will be mailed to Chris Bannon

Woodland Resources Camp - discussion about what to do with the money as we have no candidate that we have found.
Bob Wagner said that we could make the check out to the Endless Mts. RC&D Council and they could find a candidate.
Motion by Kevin Urian that a check for $100 be made out to the Endless Mts. RC&D Council for an attendee at the Woodland Resources Camp.
Motion seconded by Jim Holbert. Yes by All.

2009 Gun Raffle
Treasurer is to make out a check for $150 to Kevin Urian for a gun that he will sell to the Branch for the 2009 gun Raffle.
No sponsors as of yet.
We should all try and get sponsors and notify Jim Dovin by July 13th 2009.
The Small Game of Chance # should be put on the ticket. Secretary or the Treasurer will send the # to the President.
The tickets will be $5 each.
Tickets will be printed up before the Sportsmens Event at Andres on August 1.

Reimbursement for anyone attending the National Convention or Deer Steward I & II
After much discussion limits were set at $350 (total) for those attending the National Convention and
$750 (total) for those attending Deer Steward I & II. Last year we spent $1100 for directors to attend these events.
We will put $1500 towards the following $450 for kids to attend the 2 camps,
$350 for Directors to attend the National Convention,
$750 for directors to attend Deer Steward I and II courses.
Motion by Al Cuevas to pay $750 to Jim Dovin as he has attended Deer Steward I.
Motion seconded by Jim Holbert
Vote 5 to 1. Motion passes.

Planting work on the 2 SGL food plot sites.
Wet weather has hampered planting progress on SGL 35 & 140.
Lots of discussion - the President will ask Jack Sorber and John Butler about getting the sites on SGL 140 sprayed.
                                    Bob Wagner and Jack Sorber about getting SGL 35 sprayed.
It is intended to get the sites planted by late July or early August.
Bob Wagner will call Ray Stanis, PGC Food and Cover Foreman, about mowing the sites on SGL 35.
Jim Dovin and Kevin Urian will come up and help spray the sites on SGL 35 after the sites have been mowed.
We will earmark $1000 for getting these sites seeded to a permanent cover seeding.
Motion by Jim Holbert to have Sienko Forest Products do the seeding on these sites.
Motion seconded Bob Wagner. Yes by All with one abstention.

Andres Sportsmen's Event and the Dr. Kroll talk.
Jim Holbert explained how things will be run this year with the Andres event running from 9 to 2 at Andres and
Dr. Krolls talk will be at Montrose High School starting at 3pm.
QDMA will write newsarticles about the Andre event and the Dr. Kroll event.
We will see about having an Eblast about the Dr. Kroll event and the Andres event.

Upcoming Events
July 23 - Federation of Sportsmens meeting - QDMA is the host at the Canawacta Rod and Gun Club.
               (Federation will also be having a Gun raffle and is asking each club to seel 200 tickets.)
July 27th - next Susq. Br. QDMA BoD mtg. Site to be determined.
August 18-20th Ag. Progress Days - PA QDMA will be having a tent and be conducting tours of the PSU Deer pens.
August 22 - Antler Scoring Class - PA QDMA is sponsoring this. Contact Dave Wilcox to register.
August 23 - PA QDMA BoD. Mtg.
September 26th - Federation of Sportsmen's Youth Field Day - (QDMA is one of the station participants).
